Tsavo West is known for its rugged volcanic scenery, rolling hills, lava fields, and natural springs. Compared with Tsavo East, it has more varied terrain and denser vegetation in many areas, giving it a distinctly different safari character.

One of its most famous attractions is Mzima Springs, where clear water flows through lush vegetation and supports hippos, crocodiles, and fish.
