What’s your Idea of a Staycation Vacation?

Travelling and getaways is becoming a common thing in Kenya today. Gone are the days when taking a weekend away from the usual was considered a luxury or for a certain class of people. With the flexibility of payment plans among many tour operators and the change in perception about travelling and getaways anytime is TRAVEL TIME!

In western countries saving for a trip is a way of life. In Kenya it's something that we are slowly having to learn as more and more people embrace local tourism. Now we know that travelling is not about money but about the memories we create, adventure and self love.

In the past the only place many of us would travel to is to the village or up country to visit our folks and grandparents LOL and that would happen mostly once a year during Christmas. Today that is beginning to change and you find many travel upcountry before Christmas because they have other travel plans maybe to Mombasa, Masai Mara Dubai or anywhere else in the world.

However that is not to say that we cannot create our little heaven even at the village or just at our own homes. With the rise of Airbnb and homestay business in the tourism industry in Kenya today we are beginning to see another vacation trend slowly taking shape. For example you will find families renting out an apartment out of town for the weekend or driving to upcountry homes for a breath of fresh air and birds chirping at daybreak.

Depending on the location of the apartment or vacation homes you spend about 30 to 40 dollars per person per night. Some give you the freedom to cook for yourselves or the package comes with a chef or you can even bring your own chef and enjoy quiet time lounging and reflecting and basically doing nothing. Some will have outdoor activities you could do like cycling, nature walks, morning or evening run, a play ground, a swimming pool etc. Simple fun activities for the family or individuals to enjoy.

This is exactly what we are calling a STAYCATION! Where you just go somewhere and stay in your pajamas all day snacking and sleeping and doing pretty much nothing but enjoying time with yourself or with your friend/s.

The beauty of a staycation is that you can create your own..doesn't have to be expensive and you can make it into whatever you want it to be for you in terms of activities or the place you are desiring to experience. So now that you know what a staycation is could you share your idea of a perfect staycation with us?

Could you tell us if this is something you would definitely like to try out if you have not done it yet? You can share pictures of your staycation with us and let's have fun with it and encourage more people to go on a staycation this year!

Here is mine...I went to Nyeri last month at a place called Ihithe courtesy of an invitation from a friend. I am a village girl so i found this place so fascinating in many ways-the village girl in me instantly came alive!! Ihithe is a Kikuyu word meaning "hidden"

It was not really on a staycation but it turned out to be a mini one and now I wanna go back soon this time for a REAL STAYCATION. It's a beautiful place overlooking the Aberdare ranges and it's up on the hill. Breathtaking scenery with vast tea plantations and oh my gosh i just cannot wait to go back there and enjoy my staycation meditating and journaling on my best life yet!
